Match charger amps to your car — the math that matters
An EV charges at the lower of two rates: what the car's onboard charger accepts, or what the EVSE can deliver. A bigger wall unit cannot force a car to charge faster.
Example A: 40 A charger → 40 × 240 ÷ 1000 = 9.6 kW
Example B: car accepts 7.2 kW onboard → adding a 48 A unit (11.52 kW) changes nothing: min(11.52, 7.2) = 7.2 kW
Rule of thumb: continuous load must sit at 125% headroom on the circuit — a 40 A charger needs a 50 A breaker. Your electrician confirms panel capacity before any purchase decision.
How we verify certifications — and today's gate status
Before we recommend any EVSE, we require two independent evidence classes for its UL 2594 / ETL listing: the manufacturer's own certification document, plus an independent registry entry (UL Product iQ, UL SPOT, or the Intertek listing directory). On 2026-08-26 both UL registries returned bot-wall blocks (HTTP 403) and the Intertek directory sat behind a corporate login, so zero models pass the gate today. Retailer-listing claims — including certification strings printed in shopping titles — never count as evidence on either side. This page shows the resulting honest state: a full cannot-verify list, an empty recommendation grid, no prices, and no buy links. When the first accepted certificate payload lands, affected models move automatically; this notice updates with the date of the change.
